Pizza night

The best night of the week was Saturday, aka "pizza night". On Saturday, our savior, Alejandro, along with his wife Elsa, hosts "the ritual" (as he calls it) of bringing together his friends and cooking for them. He considers it a cornerstone to building community, and sees cooking as an act of love. In Argentina, dinnertime starts at 8:30pm (that's when restaurants open). Gabriel goes to bed at 7pm, so he never had the chance to go out to dinner (and eat parilla and asado like we did), and his attendance at pizza night was from Alejandro's bed, fast asleep. Bri, Ameen, Noelani, and I did have the chance to enjoy multiple pizza nights, meeting Alejandro's friends and family, and tasting way too many fresh pizzas, with various toppings. My favorite topping was ham and blue cheese. Yes, really.

Gabriel did have fun during the day with Emilio, age 8 (see pix), playing cards, soccer, and hiking/scrambling to a waterfall. Alejandro's other sons are Joaquin, age 18, heading off to his first year of college to study computers), and Juan, age 16 (see pix of him sporting a Led Zepplin t-shirt, my favorite), who was off in the woods for 3 days camping when we first arrived.
