El Rio

Lago Puelo might be know for it's lake, but it was the river, Rio Azul, that impressed us most. It was low and wide and sparkly. The imaginatively colored rocks reminded me of slelecting pretty rocks from a driveway near our house. A driveway of "river rocks", purchased at a store. The Rio Azul rocks are the real deal. And the water is clear, although parts of it are contaminated with the results lf too many people living near it in El Bolson. I wasn't tough enough to swim as much as Noelani did (it was REALLY cold), but I loved to walk along and listen to it flow.

On one part of the river, a 30 minute walk in from the second footbridge (la pasarela), was a small hippie outpost, Mamarita (?). You could camp there, or just hang out. They had a colorful children's area that we all took full advantage of: tightrope walking, juggling, swinging, and playing dressup.
