Our new home in Chile

Jumping ahead to the here and now (still need to fill in the Agentina details...coming soon) - we are in Las Cascadas, Chile, on day 3 of a 1 month stay.  Our little cabana used to be a smokehouse.  It is located behind the main farmhouse, which is up a hill a little away from the road.  Our neighbors are sheep, cattle, and horses.  Thankfully, no barking dogs or crowing roosters.

From the front door, we have a peeking view of Lake Llanquihue, and from the back door, a view of the Osorno Volcano (which last errupted in the 1800s, so it feels pretty safe...).  It is very beautiful here, much like the rural, rolling hills in western NJ, but with huge volcanos and lakes mixed in.  Our hosts are very helpful and have invited us to pick from the garden, so we have been enjoying fresh peas and might be putting some chard into our scrambled eggs tomorrow.

Only downside so far is the distance from the ẗown center (which is only 3x3 blocks), a 30 min walk.  Some groceries require a 45-60 bus ride to bigger towns.  For example, there is no pharmacy here or in the next bigger town, so we have to go to Osorno, the big city, for contact lens solution.  That said, I was able to buy an indivdual bandaid, for less than a US penny, at the small grocery store (humorously named the Super Mercado).  Alas, now that we have the meat, veggies, fruit, bread, and eggs we need, we are happily enjoying our peaceful locale.
