We strongly ascribe to the "baby-wearing" philosophy, and we have several mechanisms to do this with. We use them in the house and when we go out on our walks.

Who is squeezing the baby now?
We've been trying to snap photos of all of our visitors, but did not catch every one -- so those folks will just have to come back to visit again! We are happy to report that little g loves being held by everyone.

Coffee Shop
Well, my dream date came true yesterday, as Noelani and Gabriel and I went to the coffee shop for the first time together. As some of you know, my fantasy about having a baby was that we would spend our days lounging at the coffee shop, like I'd seen other moms doing. The baby would not cry, or poop. We would read the paper and sip mochas. It was NOT just a fantasy! It happened yesterday! Really! Of course, last night he kept us up most of the night chattering away (maybe it was the mocha?). But for that 1 hour period, he slept soundly in the moby wrap as we walked up to the coffee shop, lounged reading the paper, and walked back. Timing was perfect as he woke up just as we rounded the corner on the way back and wanted to eat. :-)

Quiet Sunday
We are having a good, quiet day today. It seems, though, that little g mistakes night for day, and is very chatty at night, and is sleeping soundly now...hmmmm...we'll see how that goes in the long run. We are learning to use the Moby and the Ergo carrier, and to "wear" our baby. He seems to like that, and it is useful to have two hands rather than just one.

Two Weeks
Yes, it has been two weeks already! It seems both longer and shorter than that. It's hard to remember a time when he wasn't here, and it is strange to see him so "big" now, different than the fragile newborn. I feel like we are coming out of the haze of the first two weeks -- often described, very accurately, as "really hard and really fun". It is so cool to just hang out and watch him do simple things like make faces and stretch his arms and legs. He loves the sun, and he loves the bath. He likes to sleep on his mama's breast, and on his mommy's chest. He is nursing like a champ, and has gained back 9 of the 14 ounces he lost. They say he has my nose and mouth. I say he has Noelani's spirit and strength. He is opening his eyes more and more, looking around, taking in this new world. He is squirmy and seems to have somewhere to go as he tries to scoot off of the ottoman during his sunbathes (don't worry, I'm right there to catch him). He doesn't have eyebrows, but his "eyebrow placeholders" are very expressive already. We are so curious about what he's thinking all the time. We are madly in love with him, and I have to go back upstairs to stare at him some more. Much love to everyone!

The Belly Cast, completed
Earlier I posted a pix of the process of making the belly cast.
Here is the final product -- it's Noelani's body (obviously), with my hands holding her (and little g). I want to see if we can get him back in there, but I think he's too big! ;-)
We are planning to mount it in the living room (when we find the time!).
